Create contacts/lists

There are 4 ways to create contacts/lists: send a list of contacts from NGP VAN, import a CSV from PDI, import a CSV or Google Sheet of contacts, and manually create contacts in Bluelink.

Send a list of contacts from NGP VAN

If you already have a NGP VAN integration set up with Bluelink, you will have the option to send an existing list from NGP VAN into Bluelink.

Before you send your list, make sure the pop-up blocker on your browser (if you have one) is off.

  1. Create your list in NGP VAN.
  2. Click "SMS".
  3. You will be prompted to "Send this list to your SMS provider". Hit "Send".
  4. You will be redirected to Bluelink, where you will be prompted to "Confirm".
    1. If you would like other users to be able to use your list, check "Make Public".
  5. Once sync is complete, you will be able to view your list under “Lists” in the sidebar.

Import a CSV or Google Sheet of contacts

When you’re ready to upload a list, click Lists, then Upload List.

  1. Upload a CSV
    1. Drop or manually upload the CSV you want to use.
    2. Name your list. (The name of the file you upload will be the default.)
    3. If you would like other users to be able to use your list, check "Make Public".
    4. Map your columns to Bluelink contact fields. The required columns that must be filled out are givenName, familyName, and phone. There can be no blanks in those columns in the CSV you upload.
    5. Click "Import" to start your upload.
      1. Import a Google Sheet
        1. Click the "Google Sheet" tab and then, "Choose Google Sheet".
        2. A popup will appear that will allow you to select a Google Sheet from your Google Drive account.

        Importing a Google Sheet does not allow for mapping column headed. Ensure your columns are named properly before importing.

        After you've added a CSV or Google Sheet, your upload will process in the background. It can take up to a few minutes for an upload to complete. Once your upload is complete, you can see it in the sidebar under “My Saved Lists” with "# items" next to the name.


        Manually create contacts

        This method recommended for individual or small groups of contacts.

        1. Click “Add Person”.
        2. Complete Given Name and Family Name and add at least one (1) email or phone number. The more information you can provide, the better!


        1. Create your list universe in PDI and export the list. 

        2. In Bluelink Messaging, navigate to the Lists page and click Upload List.


        3. Once your list is uploaded, you will map your columns. Make sure you select pdiId in the Primary ID field.

        4. Once you map your columns your list will appear under Saved Lists and say Queued for Import
